Hey man, you could do a lot worse. I’ve worked for Wal-Mart before and honestly don’t see where people get that they treat their employees bad. I’d been a night stocker, and the supervisor was discriminating against me bad because of my long hair. He finally kicked me out of the store, and I seriously was not doing anything wrong. He’d tried to embarrass me in front of everyone and it backfired on him.
Anyway, I talked to the human resources person the next day about what happened, and she said not to worry about it – to come on in like nothing happened. We had a new supervisor that night, and she was awesome. The other guy was demoted.
Also, at the last hotel I worked at, the front desk supervisor quit to work at Wal-Mart because his wife worked there and she was getting better pay and benefits. I took over the supervisor job at the hotel, and within two years he was making $3 more than me with excellent health care, retirement, etc (especially compared to what I had). And all he does is stock shelves, much less stressful than the crap I had to deal with at the hotel.
Of course, every business is only as good as its management, just like some KFCs suck while others rule. Hopefully, you’ve got some nice folks to work with.
All points worth considering, yes. I was telling my wife recently that until I get a full time teaching job, Wal Mart (for all my political gripes) would be a GOOD thing. The idea is to have a steady job for when teaching (and the check that comes with it) vanishes over X-Mas and Summer. So, maybe a little sarcastic, but in the end, I’m VERY honest about the title meaning well.
Glad you’re gainfully employed, Rich. Sometimes, we have to bit the bullet, and do thinks we don’t like to pay the bills. Once my job ends in January, I’ll be looking to Walmart, Target or whoever.
Hell I may be on a street corner going, “suckee suckee mistah? Me love you long time!”
Thanks, Rain. I’m just hoping to get started soon. I finished my indoctrination training today, and am now am able to be put on the schedule. Timing is good. I just got my last teaching check.
Mailed in paperwork to teach online. Wondering where that’s going go.
